This is the touching moment a man surprised his US veteran grandfather by returning home and pretending to be a waiter in a cafe.

The footage, captured in Racine, Wisconsin, on January 10, shows the blind, 90-year-old grandfather ordering food from the grandson who he thinks is a waiter.

''You don't recognise me?'' asks the waiter.

The grandfather then explains he is blind.

The grandson replies: ''You may talk to me a couple of times every day.''

Realising the waiter is his grandson and that they are reunited after many months apart, the grandfather bursts into tears of joy.

The grandson writes:

''My Grandpa is a WWII Veteran and will be turning 90 years old next month.

''My whole life I've been extremely close with my Grandpa as he is the only male role model that I've had.

''Last year I relocated from Wisconsin to Florida and had to say goodbye to this incredible man.

''Last week his older sister passed away. In order to cheer him up, I flew home to surprise him at his favorite diner, disguised as a waiter.

''He is legally blind, which made this a little more challenging than expected!

''This is the first time that I have ever witnessed him show emotion.''
