The Antarctic Peninsula is a mecca for people interested in wildlife and spectacular polar scenery and is the most accessible part of Antarctica. The Peninsula is mostly visited in summer by polar tourists travelling by ship, in this case One Ocean Expeditions on the Akademik Ioffe in November 2015. Several countries have bases on the Antarctic Peninsula, and some of these may be visited. Argentina has a refugio (emergency refuge hut) on D’Hainaut Island on the Antarctic Peninsula. These passengers have disembarked from Zodiacs before hiking to the refugio.
