A really rare sight - Steenbok antelope males fighting
The Steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) is a delightful small, large-eyed antelope found in southern Africa. Steenbok stand about 50 centimetres (19.7 inches) at the shoulder and weigh between 10-13 kg (22-28 pounds) – the size of a medium-sized dog. Only the male has horns. Steenbok occur singly or in ram/ewe pairs in open country and are independent of water, and strongly defend their territories. Breeding mostly occurs in the summer rainy season, and combat between males rarely occurs – instead they engage in “bluff-and-bluster” displays. The actual combat between competing Steenbok rams near the Ngotso Waterhole in Kruger Park in this clip is a very rare sighting.
