Lions track, chase and kill a Giraffe

Buy video

An early morning safari organised by Calabash African Adventures found us in Ndutu National Park in Tanzania when our excellent driver and guide Malisa spotted a lion in the bush, upon approach we noticed other lions and they had obviously spotted something of interest! A giraffe was tree grazing, apparently oblivious to the imminent danger and when taken by surprise by the lions, tried to make a run for it hotly pursued by the lions and us in the safari vehicle. Finally with the teamwork of the lions, they managed to bring the giraffe to the ground and have their breakfast. The stalking, chase and culmination was fascinating and although sad for the demise of the magnificent giraffe, a number of animals (not just lions) ate well for a few days.
