30,000-acre Carr fire forces more evacuations
The Carr fire in Shasta County, northern California, has consumed close to 30,000 acres of land, local media reported on July 26.
Thousands of residents in the town of Keswick and Old Shasta area were put under a mandatory evacuations as the fast-moving flames threatened homes and structures. Earlier in the day, about 40 boats were destroyed by the flames at a marina.
Authorities have advised residents to be ready to leave at a moment's notice and to have their vehicles full of gas, and have water and snacks as more evacuations were ordered.
This video, taken by Christian Wulfestieg around 1 pm and posted to Facebook, shows an eerie orange sky.
Large parts of major roadways, including highway 299, have been closed. Police said winds were pushed the Carr Fire northeast toward Shasta Dam after jumping the Sacremento River.
As of the late afternoon, the fire was 10% contained.
