This is the bizarre moment a taxi driver's rear windscreen suddenly shatters without being touched.

Stanley Tai, 32, was waiting at a set of traffic lights in Taipei, Taiwan, just after midnight on July 11 when he heard a loud crack.

The Uber driver pulled over on the Luzhou Sanmin Road and Zhongzheng Road to check the damage and was shocked to see the entire screen had shattered.

Stanley still does not know what caused the mystery breakage and believes it could have been the atmospheric changes by a recent typhoon or a prankster shooting it with a BB gun.

He said: ''I was just about to turn right when I heard a bang as I waited for the red light. The rear windshield suddenly burst.

''I took the car to be fixed thenexy day and the mechanic said it could have been the steel ball from an air gun that caused it. It could also have been the effects of a recent typhoon.

''I have reported the incident and hope whatever it was, that it doesn't happen again.''
