Victoria Orca Vigil Continues on Canadian Thanksgiving Day

Several members of the Canadian Orca Rescue Society spent Canadian Thanksgiving Day out on the street in Victoria, B.C., continuing a 17 day vigil for J35, a South Coast Resident Orca that carried her dead calf for 17 days during the summer. The Orca Rescue Society is pushing governments in Canada to provide more funding for Salmon Hatcheries (Chinook Salmon are a main source of food for the Orcas), increased funding for Salmon spawning stream rehabilitation, the elimination of open net fish farms in the ocean, a restriction on adding more cargo ship trips on the Salish Sea between the mainland and Vancouver Island, closure of sport and commercial fishing in Orca foraging zones, and keeping whale watching cruises out of Orca feeding zones,
