Tourist finds remarkable display of colorful butterflies gathering together in rain forest

We recently visited a rain forest reserve in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The rain forest was filled with a variety of life and there was an abundance of water in the form of rivers, streams and waterfalls. While driving through the forest we suddenly noticed a great number of butterflies all flying around in one area next to the road. We stopped and I started filming this spectacle. We were surrounded by butterflies in the air. Their conspicuous fluttering flight all around us caused for a mesmerizing experience. The butterflies all started gathering together on the ground next to a tree. I slowly went a little closer and managed to film these eye-catching black butterflies with their strikingly deep metallic blue bands on the upper side of their wings. When they all closed their wings the butterflies quickly looked totally different with their pitch-black wings and yellow spots on the edges. While in such a beautiful rain forest watching these brightly colored butterflies congregate, I felt like I was in an Avatar jungle. It was indeed one of the most beautiful nature scenes I have captured in a long time. We later identified them as the African blue-banded swallowtail.
