Sand martin birds have returned to their nests following a bitter dispute between activists and a council over the netting - of cliffs. The netting was placed across a 1.3km stretch of the cliffs to stop birds nesting as part of a Sandscaping scheme to move two million cubic metres of sand on to the beach. But twitchers across the country, including BBC naturalist Chris Packham, were outraged as the netting prevented birds accessing their nests. The sand martins had migrated thousands of miles to the UK.
