Two workers die after getting trapped in collapsed trench in Colorado
Two construction workers died after becoming trapped in a collapsed trench when working on building foundations in Colorado yesterday afternoon (April 16).
Video of the scene shows rescue workers' efforts to free them from their imprisonment in the foundations of a DR Horton-developed home in Windsor, Colorado.
The two were caught at 2:40pm MDT and as many as 60 first responders were sent to the scene. Soil conditions meant that initial efforts to dig them out had to be performed by hand, until a specialised soil vacuum was brought to bear.
Sadly the two workers perished before they could be retrieved, though it was reported that the family of one of them was able to briefly speak to him through an air pipeline before he died.
