Phoenix, United States - July 28, 2025 07/28/2025 01:10 pm GMT-0700 GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Rescue operations were initiated Monday afternoon after multiple agencies responded to reports of a person trapped in a trench at the intersection of North 183rd Avenue and West Lower Buckeye Road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene at approximately 1:10 p.m. and worked for around 30 minutes to rescue the individual. As rescuers made their efforts, they encountered significant challenges as more dirt and debris continued to fall onto the trapped person. Due to the hazardous conditions, the command eventually decided to transition the operation from a rescue to a body recovery. Preliminary information indicates that the individual fell about 6 feet into the trench. Goodyear police later provided an interview, detailing additional aspects of the incident. Goodyear police detectives were on the scene and took over the investigation.
