This is the moment a man slapped a politician as he was giving a pre-election speech in the Indian state of Gujarat on Thursday.

Congress leader Hardik Patel was addressing an audience in Surendranagar District when the man suddenly walked onto the stage and delivered a swift blow to the Patidar leader's face.

The man was overpowered by Congress workers who then beat him up before dragging him away from the venue.

Patel on Friday filed a police complaint over the slap.

Hardik Patel was delivering a speech in Gujarati when suddenly a man walked up to the stage and slapped him. The man then pushed Hardik Patel a few times before people intervened. In the video, the man can be seen shouting angrily at Hardik Patel after slapping him and trying to manhandle him.Later, people present at the venue got hold of the man and he was beaten up. Police had a tough time trying to recue him. He was later taken to a local hospital.
Hardik Patel later filed a police complaint against the man. A man later identified as Tarun Gajjar . Surendranagar constituency is set to go to polls on April 23, with the rest of Gujarat.
