Welland Fire and Emergency Services were called to 169 East Main Street in Welland, ON., at 10:30 p.m. Sunday for the report of a structure fire.
Fire dispatch reported multiple calls on the fire and heavy smoke could be seen blocks away as firefighters approached the scene.
Firefighters, who responded with multiple units, including an aerial ladder, found one of two garages behind 169 East Main on fire.
The fire was quickly knocked down and firefighters sprayed water throughout the interior to hit hotspots in the ceiling.
Welland Fire Chief Denys Prevost did not have a cause or damage estimate at the time, but said it was just the one garage that was on fire. The garages sit behind business and residential units.
Firefighters were on scene for nearly two hours putting out the blaze.
No one was injured, and Niagara EMS paramedics were on standby at the scene.
Niagara Regional Police blocked off East Main St. between River Rd. and Hellems Ave. as fire equipment and personnel were across both lanes of traffic.
