A sailor taking a group of birdwatchers on a day trip had a glass hurled at him in a bizarre boat rage confrontation on a Romanian lake.

Daniel Petrescu was with the guests on his vessel when he noticed another group in a speedboat being rowdy on lake Trei Lezere on the Danube Delta in eastern Romania, on May 11.

Footage shows how the genteel day out became violent when Daniel exchanged words with the passing speedboat carrying several burly men who were allegedly drunk. He said he asked them to slow down to be safe on the water.

But the speedboat circled back around and powered towards them before a bald man was seen throwing something which is heard smashing.

Daniel then films broken glass on the deck before turning the camera on his bleeding face.

Speaking after, the shaken boat owner said: “We were on a boat trip on Lake Trei Lezere with a group of German ornithologists.

“A speedboat appeared, apparently driven by a group of drunk guys who thundered past and caused a wave that nearly knocked us out of our chairs.

“I made a gesture for them to stop, but no chance. They turned around and passed us, swearing and insulting us.

“After a verbal exchange where I wished them ‘good luck’, they did it again and circled back to our boat.”

Daniel said he filmed the incident and that he has reported it to police.

He added: “The glass smashed and caused two deep wounds. My clients were shocked at the sight of blood pouring down my face, thinking I lost an eye.”

According to local media, a 43-year-old man from Arges County was identified by the local police and an investigation is now underway.
