A dramatic video has emerged of a thick, rapidly rotating column of air hovering over a village in northern India.

The swirling column of air, resembling a tornado, is seen moving in and around an agricultural field in Bihar state's Supaul district.

The incident took place on July 15 evening.

Visuals show a woman wearing a saree (a garment draped around the body, traditionally worn by women from south Asia) screaming and alerting nearby villagers to evacuate the spot.

Video also shows a man untying his bulls and fleeing the site.

It also shows thick dark clouds forming in the sky.

In a similar video, that circulated on social media on July 11, a tornado is seen emanating near a residential area at Chhatapur village in Supaul.

This is not the first time that tornadoes and storms have wreaked havoc in Bihar.

More than 90 people were killed as a severe storm struck many parts of the state in April 2010.

Apart from Bihar, the powerful storms killed many in West Bengal, Assam and Bangladesh.

A tornado accompanied by thunder squall hit parts of northern Bengal and Bihar, killing more than 130 people, in April 2015.

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the state, killing 24, and affecting more than 2.5 million people.

Weather forecasters have predicted massive rains and thundershowers in many areas of Bihar till July 17.
