One-and-a-half-year-old child trapped inside car, rescued following relentless effort

Firefighters rescued a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was trapped inside a car. The vehicle had an automatic locking system and the child was holding the keys inside. The rescue was carried out safely and without injury.

The incident took place in Thiruvalla, in Puramattam, in Pathanamthitta district, in southern India's Kerala, on January 7.

Visuals show that a child got trapped inside a car with the key locked inside. Fire service officials rushed to the spot without delay. Using a glass catcher device, the team lowered the window. The child was rescued safely and handed over to family members.

Speaking to Newslions, Satheesh Kumar, Senior Fire & Rescue Officer, Fire and Rescue Station, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, stated that a trapped toddler was reported from Paduthodu in Ward 4 of Puramattom Panchayat. A one-and-a-half-year-old child named Evan was locked inside a car after the vehicle’s key remained inside. The child is the son of Kiran T. Mathew of Thekkanal house. On noticing the situation, the child’s mother Anita, immediately informed the Thiruvalla Fire and Rescue Station.

Acting promptly, fire service officials rushed to the location with two rescue vehicles. Upon arrival, the team assessed the situation and initiated a rescue operation. Using a specialised glass catcher device, firefighters carefully lowered the car window to gain access. The child was then safely removed from the vehicle without sustaining any injuries.

The rescue operation was led by Assistant Station Officer K.S. Ajith and Grade Assistant Station Officer N.R. Shashikumar. The team also included Senior Fire and Rescue Officer K. Satheesh Kumar, along with officers Sooraj Murali, Mugesh Kumar, Shivaprasad, Vipin, Vinod Titus, Mukesh, and Home Guard Lalu. The timely action of the fire service prevented a potential mishap.
