Rescue personnel have been filmed using special devices to look for trapped survivors following a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in north India.

Footage from today (September 5), in Batala city of Punjab state's Gurdaspur district, shows a National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) worker using a screen connected to a remote camera scanning through the rubble.

The fatal accident claimed at least 23 lives while 26 others sustained injuries.

A video has emerged of National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) personnel of India using special devices to look for survivors under the rubble following a massive blast in Punjab province.

The video was shot on Sept 5, a day after blast rocked a cracker factory in Batla city of the state's Gurdaspur district.

The fatal accident claimed at least 24 lives while 26 others sustained injuries.

NDRF personnel, who rushed to the spot at 6 pm on Sept. 4, said a team of 35 rescuers carried out the operation while two other teams were on standby.

The personnel was seen using a Victim Locating Camera to find survivors under the debris. He was seen guiding his team while the operation was underway.

Meanwhile, the blast was so intense that it not only decimated the cracker factory but also affected the surrounding buildings.

Condolences have poured in from all corners.

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said he was 'saddened to learn about the loss of lives'.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh said he was 'deeply anguished' after hearing the loss of lives.

A grant of Rs 2 lakh ($2,782) has been announced for the family of the deceased.
