A round of applause was heard as a rescue team pulled out survivors from a collapsed apartment building in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on January 24.

Dozens of residents were left trapped after the five-storey building gave way.

National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) officials rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue work. Twelve people were rescued and sent to hospital but at least 12 others are feared trapped.

Those who are still trapped were supplied with oxygen and water through pipes.

In a tragic incident, a building was seen collapsing to rubble after an earthquake tremor struck in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh.

The incident happened in Lucknow city on January 24.

In a heartbreaking incident, dozens of people were left trapped under rubbles of a four-storied apartment that collapsed after slight tremors were felt on the morning of the incident. While the counting continued, an approximate of two dozen people were pulled alive out of the building.

The apartment building was built about 12 years ago and has 12 flats. Most of them were vacant and work was underway in its parking space on the ground floor.

The five-storey structure was built on about 4,000 square feet area and there were no emergency exits.

The National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) officials rushed to the spot and a very hectic rescue operation commenced. While at least twelve people were rescued and rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment, those who are still trapped were supplied with oxygen and water through pipes.

NDRF Commandant Mr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, who was present at the spot, said that NDRF is continuously continuing the search, relief and rescue work in collaboration with the local administration and other agencies. There is still a possibility that more people may be trapped under the debris, our efforts are to save everyone's life. NDRF's rescue operation is going on continuously.
