A craftsman showed off his incredible skills of making lacquer thread sculpture on vases in southern China.

The impressive video, filmed in the city of Xiamen, shows the man named Chen Wencai using thin mud strips to create patterns on a porcelain vase and plate, ashtray and a cattail leaf fan.

Lacquer thread sculpture is a traditional folk handicraft of southern China's Fujian Province, which dates back to 1400 years.

Chen said it took him at least three days to complete a simple lacquer thread sculpture and it can also take a long period up to several months if it was a complicated product.

The videos were filmed between February and July in 2019.

陈文才是福建厦门的一名漆线雕工艺师，接触这门工艺已有17年。他介绍，漆线雕有1400多年的历史，是我国第一批非遗工艺。漆线由植物漆和一种特制的混合粉等材料制成，再用锤子千锤百炼，做成像面团一样的漆线泥，十分有韧性，可以搓成细细的线，也可以捏龙头等，能在瓷瓶、扇面等物体上牢牢粘住，自然风干后可保存上千年。陈文才说，简单一点的作品，需要制作三四天，如果复杂的作品，甚至会需要几个月时间。
