On the afternoon of September 26 in Lufeng, Shanwei, Guangdong, a boy under the age of three woke up alone at home while his parents were out picking up their other children. Since the door was closed and he could not find his parents, the boy moved a chair and climbed up to the second-floor balcony. He accidentally slipped and was left hanging dangerously over the edge, about to fall.

At that critical moment, a neighbour in a red shirt, Chen Zhaodi, noticed the danger. She rushed forward with passersby and caught the boy firmly with her bare hands just as he fell.

The boy was examined and found to be completely unharmed, while Chen Zhaodi suffered a minor leg injury from the impact.

The boy’s father said he had only been away for 20 minutes. After waking up and looking for adults, his son climbed over the balcony railing. If not for the timely rescue, the consequences would have been unimaginable. He expressed deep gratitude to Chen Zhaodi.

Afterward, Chen Zhaodi said: “I have children myself, and we are neighbours. I didn’t think too much, I just thought saving him came first.”
