In the video showing thousands of women being whipped to rid them of evil spirits during a brutal ceremony in a remote Southern Indian village.

Women and teenagers kneel side-by-side in a long que  and wait to be flogged by priests during the Vijayadashami festival.

The priest & asscoite so-called ‘salvation seekers’ to be whipped with some fearing they are possessed and others believing the ritual will cure sickness. Priests is dressed in traditional clothing then carry out the flogging using whips and pieces of wood.

The religious ceremony was celebrated in Sri Achappan Temple at Bavithram Vellalapatti in village on the border in Namakkal Districts Tamil Nadu India.
