Protesters sing "Glory To Hong Kong" on Statue Square, right in front of HSBC Headquarters in Central Hong Kong. On 19 December 2019, the police announced the arrest of members of "Spark Alliance", a fund set up by donations to ensure support of the Hong Kong protests under "money laundering" charges. Protesters blamed HSBC for informing the police about their operation, thus triggering the closure of the bank account and the subsequent arrest of the persons handling the account. The Hong Kong Police say Spark Alliance may have used the money to purchase personal insurance products. Lawyers say the charge is not warranted at law, since donations were from legal sources. Protesters asked HSBC to explain why it shut down the accounts and suspect it of informing the police. Several protesters carried placards in support of Spark Alliance during this protest.
