Scuffles broke out on Sunday in central Hong Kong as riot police cleared a square of thousands of pro-democracy protesters.

Earlier, riot police charged some of the demonstrators and also fired tear gas after two plainclothes officers were assaulted, according to local media

The gathering marked the first large-scale protest in a fortnight, a week after Taiwan’s Tsai Ing-wen won a second term in a fresh blow for Beijing.

As discussions took an animated turn, as riot police was clearing statue square, some pushing and shoving caused riot police to be pushed around and to push back, leading to a few journalists to end up thrown to the ground. Policemen kindly helped them back to their feet.
