Megan Watling and Sasha-Lee Heekes, a lesbian couple from Cape Town, are taking the Beloftebos Wedding Venue in Stanford to South Africa’s Equality Court, after they were refused the right to book the wedding venue because they are a lesbian couple.

The incident has gained national and international attention as the LGBT community has rallied behind the couple.

According to the Beloftebos website, they refused to host the wedding because the Bible states that a marriage can only take place between a man and a woman.

The couple’s legal team have advised them that the venue’s decision is in violation of South Africa’s constitution.

The South African Human Rights Commission is already preparing to take Beloftebos Wedding Venue to the Western Cape High Court for a 2017 wedding booking they rejected on the same basis.
