Huge fire destroys warehouse in eastern Thailand

Fire ripped through a warehouse in Chonburi, eastern Thailand, this afternoon (April 11) causing more than 100,000 dollars worth of damage. Flames were seen in the industrial building at around 1:30pm local time. Six fire engine rushed to the scene where they were met with thick grey clouds of smoke soaring into the air.

Officials said that strong winds were fanning the flames. There were fears that the inferno could spread to homes next to the building. Resident Thongsuk Suwasri, 43, said that four female were working in the building today. He said he noticed smoke coming from an area where a water pump is stored.

''The fire started to rise quickly so I called neighbours for help,'' he said.

Fire crews spent three hours bringing the fire under control. The estimated the damage to cost around four million Thai baht. Police and fire investigators are now examining the charred remains of the building to find the cause of the fire.
