This is the terrifying moment a huge fire tore through a furniture warehouse in Thailand.

Footage shows thick smoke billowing into the sky as the bright orange inferno ravaged the 538 square foot (50 square metre) facility in Samut Sakhon, on July 5.

Firefighters arrived at the scene with more than 20 fire trucks after receiving a report at 8:45 pm local time.

They spent two hours dousing the flames, which grew rapidly after eating through flammable furniture stored inside.

Authorities said there were no injuries or casualties reported as the fire was immediately contained. Surrounding pine trees had kept winds from fanning the flames, while a river behind the warehouse served as a natural fire break, they added.

Residents nearby were unaffected as the smoke was blowing away from their houses.

Warehouse security guard Thotsaporn Tomari said: 'While I was at the guardhouse in front of the company, I noticed a fire breaking out in the warehouse. I immediately called the warehouse manager to report it. The warehouse was used to store goods, half of which were batteries waiting to be labeled. The other half were furniture and cardboard boxes.

'I saw the fire start in the furniture storage area before it spread. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time and no one was hurt. I suspect the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.'

Firefighters said the exact cause of the blaze was under investigation.

Fires in Thailand are commonly caused by aging electrical infrastructure, extensive use of wood in construction, and regional heatwaves that can exacerbate fire risks. Rapid fire response can also be hampered in densely packed neighbourhoods where narrow streets can delay firefighting efforts.
