An elderly man in Panchulka, northern India, was handed a birthday cake by the local police force after they found out he was living alone during the country's lockdown.

Several police officers greeted Karan Puri on his drive and presented him with a birthday cake, a hat and some balloons. He then broke into tears, overcome with emotion.

According to Neha Chouhan, an officer at the station, they received the information via social media than Karan was living alone on his birthday.

It was an emotional moment for an elderly man living alone in his home in Panchkula sector 7 , when Panchkula police surprisingly came with cakes , caps and balloons on his birthday amid lockdown on 28th April . Karan Puri broke into tears to get this surprise . According to Neha Chouhan SHO lady police station ,we got the information via social media that an elderly man who lives also has a birthday today . As we reached his gate with a cake , he first thought we are here to ask him follow lockdown guidelines strictly ..but as soon we singing birthday song , he broke into tears in surprise and happiness . The elderly man broke down into tears, and thanked the cops for "making his day".
