Protesters gathered in support of Filipino TV station ABS-CBN ahead of a possible vote on a new 25-year franchise.

Large groups amassed in Quezon City outside the station's headquarters on June 6 holding signs which read, "defend press freedom."

The House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises may vote on the application of ABS-CBN for a new 25-year franchise next week.


A cease and desist order was given by the country's National Telecommunications Commission to ABS-CBN.

Media practitioners, journalists, Commission on Human Rights advocates and supporters of ABS-CBN orchestrated a caravan rally to the House of Representatives in Quezon City to urged legislators vote YES for the 25 year-franchise of the biggest and one of the oldest media conglomerate in the Philippines.

The peaceful caravan was held while supporters are shouting 'defend press freedom' in front of the congress building.

The congressional franchise of broadcast giant ABS-CBN expired on May 4, 2020, as the Philippines was dealing with the effects of COVID-19 pandemic and on that day the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) then issued a cease-and-desist order demanding ABS-CBN immediately ceae all broadcasting.
