A last goodbye to Dame Vera Lynn

Crowns lined the streets of Ditchling, the family home of Dame Vera Lynn, at midday for the funeral cortege to pass. After pausing in the village for the community to pay their respects it continued en route to the crematorium in Brighton, where the family funeral will take place. Alongside formalities which included a singalong and honorary Battle of Britain flypast, there was a giant modern art poster of her which members of the public could sign as a lasting tribute.

This type of commemoration is something of a modern twist and a way for villagers to mark the passing of one of their own for the Forces' Sweetheart who died on 18 June at the grand age of 103.
