A python had to be rescued after getting stuck in a manhole cover in a car park.

The four-metre long reptile was discovered wedged in the narrow circular opening in the concrete in Nonthaburi, Thailand on October 4.

Security guard Chan, 55, said he found the snake in the morning while he was on patrol. He tried to pull the snake by himself but it was jammed too tightly.

He called the animal rescuers for help after his failed attempt. They brought a hammer to widen the gap on the concrete and free the snake.

The rescue operation took almost an hour before they were able to successfully free the python. The snake was taken by the rescuers in a sack to release back in the wild later.

Chan, the security guard, said: ''I know that snakes are dangerous but I felt so sorry for this one. It needed help from humans.''

In a nearby town, another four metre-long python was also stuck, but this time it was caught between a net in Chao Praya river.

The rescue volunteer travelled to the snake's location by boat before cutting the net and releasing the snake back to nature.

Thailand has more than 200 snake species, including more than 30 that are venomous.
