A 125kg (275 pound; 19.7 stone) Indonesian boy was taken to hospital after getting so fat he was bed-ridden for a month.

Thirteen-year-old Ahmad Irwandi was hauled into an ambulance after officials in the village in South Kalimantan province were told about his condition on November 3.

The obese youngster was born a normal weight and without any health conditions but his family noticed his body started to become bigger than other children when he turned one-year-old.

His mother, Mardinah Irwandi, said his son used to eat three to four times a day, with each meal being big enough to feed three adults.

Last month, the boy complained that he could not stand up to walk, and became bed-ridden.

He was cared for by his mother and three older siblings. He weighed 125kg (19.7 stone) when he was taken to hospital.

Mardinah said: "Before he could still walk and play with his friends, but last month my son was unable to stand up."

The family could not pay for medical bills so they tried home remedies to ease his pain and hoped that he would eventually become better. However, weeks passed and despite eating healthier meals and smaller servings of food, his condition worsened.

The condition of the boy was reported to local officials who helped them admit him to Ulin Bnajarmasin Hospital.

Four people carried Ahmad from his bed to the ambulance before he was brought to the hospital.

After a health check, doctors diagnosed him with severe obesity and Cushing's disease which added to his fast weight gain.

Local Health Office Head Nina Sandra said that they would continue to monitor his health until he is better.

Nina said: "We are paying attention to this case. We will continue to monitor Irwandi's condition."
