As a hillfire took place on the flanks of Kowloon Peak on Sunday 9 November 2020, and a helicopter of the Government Flying Services could be seen flying several rotations to put out the fire. Although uninhabited, Kowloon Peak is often visited by hikers because it is the location of suicide cliff, a famous viewpoint. Hong Kong authorities are very vigilant about hill fires after the Pat Sin Leng incident in 1996, which claimed the lives of four students and teachers who were trapped in the deadly blaze. That incident brought about the tightening of country park security and increased vigilance on days of great wind such as today.
