An artist in east India has gone viral for his unique tree carvings to raise awareness for deforestation.

Samarendra Behera, from Banabati block of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, is now a local sensation for his meticulous carvings on trees to raise awareness against tree felling,

Behera makes art featuring faces of famous personalities on the tree trunks.

His artwork features prominent India figures such as former President, A.P.J Abdul Kalam, esteemed literary figure of Odisha, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, and many more to pay homage to their contributions to society.

Behera commented: "Usually we don’t think twice before carving out their names on trees but if there is an attractive element such as the face of freedom fighters or eminent personalities, then they would think twice before cutting the trees,”
