Heavy snowfall buries highways in Colorado mountains

Heavy snow mixed with High winds reeked havoc across I 70 west of Denver. Blizzard conditions Intensified on I 70 toward the continental divide where traffic was brought to a standstill. Trucks with chains were unable to hold their ground. Countless wrecks and an absolute whiteout made travel a nightmare. Sometimes you are unsure if you are even on the road. I 70 closeed multiple times and lines of stuck semi trucks appeared stranded roadside. I noticed a variety of collisions with many being fender benders. Unfortunately there were a handful of accidents thst were clearly the result of heavier impact. Towards the evening the already strong winds intensified. Although happy to see the snow Loveland ski area had to shut down A bit early as conditions became unsafe. My headlights highlight some of the evening conditions from the parking lot of Loveland ski area. I also spoke to a gentleman in the parking lot who offered me refuge behind A piece of industrial equipment for protection against the wind. His group was going to spend the night there In their damaged car. An earlier accident on the way up left him with one headlight and was not going to risk the drive home. On the bright side we needed snow to further contain the wildfires. The wind definitely doesn’t help but hopefully the snow does more smothering than the wind does fanning. Also Colorado’s been off to a late start on the snow. Loveland ski area has been keeping records for deckades and this year was the latest they have ever opened (opening day being November 11.) With the base elevation just under 11,000 feet they are usually one of the first in the country to open so anything in November is late for them.
