Rare footage filmed in China's Zhiduo County shows an endangered snow leopard squeal as it marks its territory.

According to reports, as snow leopards’ vocal cords lack the thick walls of elastic fibre tissue, they cannot make the domineering roar like lions, tigers and leopards.

At the end of the video, the snow leopard can be seen rubbing against the rock wall to mark the territory with secretion.

Snow leopards are listed as "vulnerable" on the International Union for Conservation's list of threatened animals.

The video was filmed on February 26 and provided by local media.
