A Filipino man has been living under a rock for two years after his family died.

Residents were shocked when they saw the man, known only as Randy, sleeping in the narrow space under the large boulder in Negros Occidental province, on December 9.

Romeo Macapas, who lives nearby, said the man was around 35 years old, and had once lived in a small hut near the forest on an isolated part of the village.

However, when the concerned residents noticed the house was empty and Randy had not been seen for a while, they began looking around the island.

They walked around the area and found him squeezing himself in the cramped space instead.

He said: "He collects garbage around our village and sells it to save money for food, and then we started to worry about him after he had not shown up for several days."

Romeo added that Randy's parents recently died and the devastation pushed him to live as a hermit away from everyone else.

Now, the kind neighbour has appeal for help so Randy can get professional help.

He said: "Randy does not seem okay, he starts to talk nonsense now and we don't understand him.

"We want him to get a health check-up, but we don't have the money to do so. I hope people will help him."

After hearing about his condition, some of their neighbours brought food to the man, but he still refused to leave his home under the rock.

Romeo has already reported the incident to local officials and hopes that someone could take him to the hospital.
