Reverse glass gilding with 23k, 18k leaf gold and abalone shell
I’m a traditional Signwriter and this was a job to paint the number for someone’s house in the glass above someone’s door. Normally it’s done in situ on a ladder but with lockdown rules in the Uk I painted the pane of glass in my studio and will be posting it to them. The piece uses gelatin water size to attach 23k gold leaf and 18k ‘lemon’ gold leaf to glass. As it dries it evolves from a Matt to mirrored finish. I embellished the 8 with real abalone/ mother of Pearl shell. This was filmed by me (Chloe Tickner @cocopaints in Suffolk Uk for a client in Stoke Newington in London). I filmed and edited the video too.
