A group of tourists climbed into a unique underground tunnel system in Vietnam.

The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting tunnels located in the Củ Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country.

The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War and were of great importance to the soldiers in their resistance to Vietnam War.

The tunnels were used by soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous Vietnamese fighters.

By 1965, about 200 kilometres of tunnels had been dug. In terms of scale, the tunnel system has a total length of over 200 kilometres, with three different deep layers, the upper layer is about 3-metres-high, the middle layer is about 6-metres-high and the bottom floor is more than 12-metres-high.

At this time, the tunnels were not only a shelter but a place to live, to heal, to meet and to store weapons.

The tunnel was dug one to 3 metres above the ground, the hatch was designed with only one person to slip through and was camouflaged with leaves.

The tunnel is around three to 8-metres-deep under the ground. The height is only enough for one person to stoop.

The first cellar on the edge of the forest has an underground well that provides drinking and domestic water for the entire tunnel area.

The tunnel system consists of three floors, from the "spine" to countless long branches, short branches interconnecting, with branches extending out to the river. The floor is 3 metres above the ground, which is used to resist shells, tanks and armoured vehicles.

The tunnels are now a place for tourists to visit and explore.
