An massive rescue operation has been organised in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand following the disastrous Chamoli dam breach on Sunday (February 7).

More than 800 personnel have been deployed including Navy marines to the disaster site, as seen in footage from February 9.

Reportedly two more bodies were discovered and the death toll has risen to 34. Around 170 people are still missing and 25 to 35 persons are feared to be trapped in the Tapovan tunnel which is being excavated to free them.

The rescue team has only been able to penetrate 120 metres into the tunnel so far, as compacted slush and debris has blocked passage through.
