The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) deployed nearly 300 personnel to carry out rescue operations in northern India's Uttarakhand after part of a Himalayan glacier had fallen into a river, bursting open a dam, on February 7.

At least 18 people are dead and 200 missing, according to reports.

The incident took place in the Tapovan dam region in the Chamoli district.

Video filmed on Sunday shows ITBP personnel using mountaineering equipment to carry out the rescue operations. They rappel down to the disaster site to rescue the locals stranded in tunnels. The injured are also seen being carried away by stretcher.

The team saved 16 people stuck in a tunnel while operations are underway to rescue 30 others stuck in another tunnel.

In addition, rescue teams of State Disaster Response Fund, National Disaster Response Force, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have also been deployed in the region after the glacier burst triggered flash floods wreaked havoc in the state.
