School children wore red and gold costumes to dance for the Chinese New Year celebrations today (Feb 12).

Youngsters wore colourful clothes to perform the neighbouring country’s traditional ‘lion dance’ at the Pracharat primary school in Phitsanulok povince, Thailand.

School director Siripan Kosituankitkul said a number of events had been organized for students during the Chinese New Year.

They wore the qipao dresses, which originate from China, and performed dragon dances while holding oriental fans.

Chinese New Year, also known at the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, begins this year on Friday, February 12.

However, celebrations will be limited around the world due to the Covid-19 coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China.
