38 Bangladeshi teenagers returned to the country through Benapole checkpost through special travel permits after going to India illegally at the border and being imprisoned for different periods. They were handed over to the Benapole Immigration Police by the Petrapole Immigration Police of India at 6.30 pm on Monday. According to the victims, they have been imprisoned in India for different periods. Later, three NGOs from Benapole Port Police Station took them to Jessore Shelter Home for handing over to their families.
Among the returnees are 38 teenagers. All of them are between 18 and 12 years of age and residents of different districts of the country including Faridpur, Barisal, Narail, Satkhira, Dhaka and Munshiganj
Children were trafficked to India about two years ago through various border crossings. They were then detained by the local police and kept in a shelter home through two private NGOs in Kolkata and Barasat. Later, at one stage, they returned to the country through the Ministry of Home Affairs of the two countries.
