Shocking footage has been shared of the moment a woman is left unconscious after her head hits the pavement during an arrest attempt.

In the video, the suspect identified as Diana Santos, can be seen resisting attempts by an officer to put handcuffs on her before he takes her to the ground.

Fairfield Police in Solano County, California have confirmed that she hit her head on the pavement in the process and lost consciousness.

The incident occurred on 20 October 2020 at around 5pm, with body cam footage released earlier this month.

Police were dispatched to an address on Jasmine Street after a caller reported an argument between two people outside and said one of them had a knife.

Officers arrived at the scene and identified one man as matching the witness' description of the man with a knife.

The argument appeared to be a family dispute, with several people involved.

In the video, the man is placed in handcuffs and seated on the pavement while officers try to determine to location of the knife.

His girlfriend, identified as 18-year-old Aleeya Santochavez, is visibly upset and struggles with officers as they try to keep her from her boyfriend.

She is then handcuffed and placed in the back of a police vehicle as she says “I hope you’re happy mum”.

Her sister later attempts to go to her in the patrol car but is refused by police, who can be seen holding her back.

Diana – their mother – steps between her daughter and the officer and is pulled away by the officer.

She can then be seen shoving the officer before another officer restrains her and tells her to stop.

Diana then says “can you stop?” to the officer and pulls her arm free.

The footage shows a scuffle before the mother is on the ground and visibly unconscious.

A man approaches her and asks why the officer had to “throw” her like that as he cradles Diana's head and comforts her.

Other members of the group scream as she is turned onto her side.

The same man asks: “Why did you have to slam her like that man?”

Another man approaches the officer, who repeatedly pushes him back.

Meanwhile a different officer can be seen attending to Diana before an ambulance is called.

She regained consciousness before paramedics arrived and was later treated in hospital and released.

Diana was cited for resisting arrest and other charges.

Public Information Officer Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen said no formal external complaint was filed with the police department.
