Orphaned albino elephant, Khanyisa, excitedly greets HERD founder, Adine Roode, shortly after being rescued in 2020
Khanyisa is an orphaned albino elephant rescued in January 2020 from a poacher’s snare. This video was filmed not long after she came to Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development (HERD), while she was undergoing rehabilitation for the horrific wounds caused by the snare. As can be seen in the video, she had already formed close bonds with her carers. Khanyisa is seen greeting Adine Roode, founder of HERD, enthusiastically before Adine checks Khanyisa's wounds and moves over for a chat with wildlife veterinarian, Dr Rogers.
