Temple in Thailand paints Buddha statues in rainbow colour

A temple in western Thailand painted their giant Buddha statues in bright rainbow colours.

Footage shows the religious figures’ bodies painted in various colours while their robes retained the classical gold accent in Kanchanaburi province on April 26.

Traditional Thai Buddhist statues were usually painted gold as followers believe it reflects the deity’s holy aura but monks at the Wat Khao Chong Pattanaram temple decided to add a twist to it.

Most of their 6ft-high statues are now painted in pink, red, green, blue, and purple among others which drew the attention of tourists.

Temple boss Phra Ratchaphon said: ‘Their appearance would remind the visitors of the beautiful rainbow. Our statues are unique and bring happiness to us.’
