This footage was filmed and produced 18 July 2021.
Images of rescue operations from the Compound wall collapse site at Bharatnagar, Chembur area in Mumbai where more than 17 people are feared to be killed. The wall collapsed due to a landslide caused by heavy incessant rains for the last few days in Mumbai.
Translation of the soundbite with Jelani Khan, Eyewitness:
[3:12-3:33]
“Yesterday night it was raining very heavily and a part of this hill gave way leading to a landslide. Due to the landslide, a compound wall collapsed and fell on the adjacent four to five houses on this side and about three houses on this side. All the families residing in those were trapped inside in the debris. Rescue operations are still going on to pull them out. Some of those rescued were taken to Rajawadi and some to Shatabdi Hospital, the rescue is still going on”.
[3:34-3:43]
“Till now about 12 dead bodies have been recovered from the debris on this side and many are still to be pulled out and on this side there are people trapped as well, who need to be rescued.”
Manda Pradhan, Eyewitness and survivor:
[3:44-3:57]
“We are so scared to go inside our houses. How long are we going to survive like this? Without a doubt; it is going to rain heavily and the remaining portion of the wall will also collapse for sure. Our lives are in great danger!
