A bizarre kitten with two faces is fighting to survive after it was born in Thailand.

The male American shorthair named Namchok was born on a litter with four other normal kittens in Samut Prakan province on August 27.

It was the last to come out of the mother cat and confused its owners as it appeared to have two pairs of eyes, two mouths, and two noses attached to a single head.

However, aside from its unusual appearance and both its face doing synchronised movements, the kitten behaved just like its siblings.

Despite its limitations, the kitten was still fighting on the afternoon of August 31.

Pet owner ay Jettarin said: 'At first I was scared that my kitten may not live but it is healthy and behaves just like any other kitten. I hope Namchok stay with us for a long time.

'I will do everything to keep my kitten alive. I believe it is a special animal and we were lucky that it was born from our pet cat.'

Two-faced cats called Janus cats - named after the Roman god with two faces - are extremely rare and can happen after an incomplete separation of two embryos.

A Janus cat is considered to be one individual with one head, a single brain, one body, and one set of internal organs. The only part of the body that's always duplicated is the face and its amount of duplication varies.
