This is the moment a bear was rescued after becoming trapped in a net hidden in a tree.

A wildlife organisation stepped up to rescue the frightened bear after getting a call to say an animal was in need.

Video shows the giant animal tangled up in a tree, and rescuers anaesthetised the bear, leaving it to fall asleep before cutting it free.

Footage shows the floppy predator being lowered into a net and carried off to safety.

And after a check over, the two-year-old mammal was laid to sleep off his anaesthetic - before waking up and looking around in confusion, in Agarakadzor, Vayots Dzor, Armenia.

The bear was rescued by Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), based in Armenia, on August 24.

FPWC is a partner organisation of International Animal Rescue (IAC), which operates worldwide to rescue, rehabilitate and protect animals.

Alan Knight OBE, chief executive of International Animal Rescue, said: “The story of this two-year-old bear had a happy outcome thanks to FPWC whose rescue team was able to set it free and move it to a safer location.

“There are many other brown bears in Armenia kept caged in miserable conditions for no good reason and we are working with FPWC to set them free.

“The sad fate of all these bears is the result of human interference but we are working hard to make things right and allow them to live the lives they deserve.”
