A mum has revealed her best baby hacks, all of which are cheap and easy to do – including a genius tip for applying sunscreen and how to keep the nappy bin from smelling up the house.

Lauren Mejia, 26, from San Jose, California, took to TikTok to reveal her affordable hacks for new mums and social media users have been left blown away by the clever simplicity behind them.

In the video, which has been watched more than 2.9 million times, the mum shares four tricks for parents with young children – including how to cool down your child's food quicker, how to tackle smelly nappy bins and more.

“Baby hacks I wish I knew before I became a mum," the clip is captioned.

SKIP THE FREEZER, USE A FAN

For her first trick, Lauren, who works as a teacher, uses a handheld fan to cool down her son’s food.

She says it’s much faster and easier than trying to cool off food using the freezer – and will save stressed parents so much time.

BAKING SODA IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

In a different clip, she shares a hack for getting rid of bad bin smells.

The mum simply adds a small cup of baking soda to the bin to neutralise the scents.

It costs practically nothing and works a charm.

HOW TO APPLY SUNSCREEN WITH EASE

The mum also reveals how she applies sun lotion to her one-year-old son, Broxton – by using a makeup brush.

“A makeup brush is the easiest way to apply sunscreen into all those small areas like their ears/nose,” she writes in the caption.

Just make sure to clean the brush between uses to avoid bacteria build up.

SPLIT THE SNACKS

In another video, the mum shows how she uses a hot knife to cut plastic sandwich bags in half – making two smaller bags for snacks.

The brilliant trick will cut down on wastage and makes it easier for the kids to share, without anyone getting upset.

“I learned baby hacks from browsing on Pinterest and through trial and error in being a mom,” Lauren told Jam Press.

“Although I have worked with children for a very long time, I felt that being a mom was an entirely different experience that I had to learn to navigate.

“I thought that if they were helpful to me, it would be great to be able to share with other parents as well!

“It is always so motivating to continue to make content when I see other moms using my hacks."

Lauren's post has racked up over 337,000 likes on TikTok and 2.9 million views so far.

“Genius,” said one person.

“I am shook!," added someone else.

“This is amazing,” wrote a third viewer.

Other mums also shared their own baby hacks, building on what Lauren did in her video.

“The sunscreen one works even better with a beauty blender,” recommended one viewer.

Another person commented: “Put the plate in the freezer before you start cooking, then serve baby’s food onto it!”

“I used the car ac today to cool down my son’s chicken nuggets,” added another mum.

Lauren has over 5.1 million likes and over 284,000 followers on TikTok, where she regularly shares tips and tricks for mums with young children.

In a different popular video, the mum shows how to make baby activities from household rubbish like empty containers, cereal boxes and old baby wipe bags.

A different video, which has been viewed over 80,000 times, she shares how she makes sensory bins using toys and craft supplies from the supermarket.
