A frequent sleep talker has shared her most unusual experiences with her TikTok followers and revealed she even unknowingly broke up with a former boyfriend while unconscious.

Katie Slattery, 24, a sales assistant from Melbourne, Australia, has lived with the condition for as long as she can remember and it has landed her in some very awkward situations.

"I’ve sent partners into panic for saying there was someone outside the window or in the house," Slattery said.

"I’ve broken up with an ex in my sleep. I've woken up fully dressed for school or in a day dress, pointed at the door saying for my friend to get out.

"When I was five, I said 'Smack my b*m and call me Judy'. I couldn't tell you where that came from."

Katie knew that the habit runs in her family and had been told about some of the things she said by others but recently started to record everything.

She said: "Some of my family members sleep talk and sleepwalk as well but I’m lucky to have it calmed down to mainly talking as I’ve gotten older.

"I would always hear what I’ve said from others or I’d wake up mid-conversation, but I hadn’t heard myself until I started to recently track my sleep and recordings.

“As I’m usually on my own, I only have the recordings to rely on for the time being, which normally plays back me giggling or finishing an argument with someone - sometimes, it’s just purely gibberish.

“I use an app called Sleep Cycle to help keep track of my sleep talk.

“In the beginning, I’d just use it for my alarm and it would be interesting to look back on how often I would wake up.

“No one has ever been able to record my sleep talking, so once I saw it as a feature, I had to try it.

“My cat also sleep talks, so I have a few recordings of that too, which is super cute.”

Katie usually gives any guests who are staying over the heads up that she may murmur a few words during the night, but has found that it doesn’t usually bother them.

She said: “I’m not too involved in the dating scene so the people I see romantically, I already know them well enough to not worry about it.

"It’s also never an embarrassing thing, it’s more funny and entertaining!

"I used to be nervous at sleepovers as a kid, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve embraced it.

“It’s not like I could help it if I tried, but I really don’t mind - I love it now.”

Katie has noticed a few patterns in what she says, for example, if she’s in a disagreement with someone she tends to continue the argument, as well as reflecting on what’s going on in her day-to-day life.

Other times, she makes no sense at all and she recalls recently murmuring, "Did you have any...um...food in mind?"

She said: “If I fall asleep on the couch with family around, I just talk to them and wake up convinced about what I’m talking about.

“I then get frustrated, as they don’t agree with me until I gradually realise that I’m talking rubbish and laugh it off."

She's did recently try a Spotify playlist of boring stories to help people fall asleep, but she had to give it up as she found she would wake up every night mid-conversation, being frustrated that they weren’t listening or understanding what she was saying.

Katie posted a clip on TikTok sharing her most interesting recordings, which has since racked up over 832,000 likes and 36.4 million views.

Included in the video is a range of murmurs, followed by a slurred question along the lines of: "What happened in here then?"

Also featured is her saying, "I don’t miss you" and a very loud snore, which is sure to wake up even the deepest of sleepers.
